In Hongkong gesitueerde film over de bijzondere verstandhouding tussen twee buitenstaanders. De Grieks-Ierse marconist Nikos is een aan opium verslaafde zeeman. Als het tienjarige Chinese meisje Li aan boord komt, is hij eerst afhoudend, maar al snel zorgen haar optimisme en doortastendheid ervoor dat hij uit zijn lethargie ontwaakt.
