Felix en Betty Crabtree verblijven in een verlaten woestijngebied. Ze willen samen een vliegtuig bouwen om aan hun situatie te ontsnappen en naar een betere plek te gaan. Op een dag komt er een onbekende man, Smith genaamd, bij hun woning. Zijn aangeboden hulp is welkom, aangezien de geestelijke druk die hun situatie veroorzaakt, hen langzaam uitput.
